byFreenet is a peer-to-peer network that transforms people’s computers into a resilient, distributed platform on which anyone can build decentralized services. Every peer contributes to a fault-tolerant collective, ensuring services are always available and robust.
byHyphanet is a peer-to-peer platform for censorship-resistant and privacy-respecting publishing and communication.
byAs the Internet continues to grow, it becomes increasingly difficult to sift through all the information that is available. With the overwhelming amount of data and choices that can be made, people need a filter to increase the Internet's usability. A technique used for dealing with this problem is collaborative filtering (also known as social filtering), which reduces the time spent searching and increases the accuracy of retrieval.
byFreenet is a distributed decentralized information storage and retrieval system that stores, caches, and distributes digital content according to demand. It is different from Napster, for example, because that file-sharing system relies on a single centralized server. Freenet is a system that lacks centralized administration. Information is inserted into the system with a unique description or 'key' and made available to those with an appropriate key. Files are searched for by their unique code. Information posters are under no obligation to make themselves known and many choose to remain anonymous. People can use crytography to prove authorship and remain anonymous by creating a persona that protects their real identity and still let them build a reputation of reliability. Since there are no centralized servers or fixed locations, Freenet is not subject to censorship because documents cannot be traced back to their source. Information is not easily removed from the system because there is no mechanism that will delete documents. Strong encryption protects against counterfeiting, tampering, or spying on the materials that are posted, stored or accessed.
byOriginally created by Tom Pepper and Justin Frankel at Nullsoft, Gnutella is a protocol that allows Internet file and information sharing in a decentralized system. They designed it in hopes of creating a purer peer-to-peer network. People connect to other people and not to a central server. Instead of connecting to a central server, Internet people connect themselves to other Internet people. People act both as clients and as servers, creating a peer-to-peer network that allows information and files to be shared and found through a non-centralized system. Gnutella software is composed of a mini search engine combined with a file system.
byOffline Speech to Text for Desktop Linux. Simple, hackable offline speech to text - using the VOSK-API.
byNumen is voice control letting you have full control of a Linux machine without needing to type. It empowers people who otherwise could not use their computers, and helps more avoid hand strain. Numen is free (libre) software and runs locally.
byThese are strange times indeed. While they continue to command so much attention in the mainstream media, the 'battles' between old and new modes of distribution, between the pirate and the institution of copyright, seem to many of us already lost and won. We know who the victors are. Why then say any more?
